Ask Yoast: Facebook or Google Ads advertising?

If you want to give your products or events an extra push, advertising is a good way to achieve that. But, should you promote your stuff on Facebook? Or is it better to use Google Ads (previously Adwords) to drive traffic to your site?

If you have to choose, perhaps because of a limited budget, you’ll want to know which of the two is the best option. Facebook or Google Ads? In our Ask Yoast inbox, we received a question from someone who wasn’t sure which of these two channels to pick:

“If I only have a limited budget, would you recommend advertising on Facebook or Adwords?”

In the video below I’ll explain what’s the best strategy!

Facebook promotion or Adwords?

“Well, this might not surprise you, because I have been telling people to use Facebook for advertising for a while now. But Facebook advertising really is a ton cheaper than AdWords. So, unless you’re very sure that you can convert traffic from AdWords better – and this is something you should test – usually Facebook advertising is cheaper and gets you a lot more people to your site for the same amount of money. So I would start with Facebook and if that converts you can also start with AdWords later on. Good luck!”

In my personal experience , I felt that Facebook is a batter option when budget is low . Another thing that goes for Facebook that easily you can set up the campaigns by the help of different parameters like interests, demographics, language .. etc . Even a first time user can boost up posts easily with nicely guided interface .

I agree that Facebook is a better avenue than Adwords. I own a self defense company that sells non lethal weapons and devices and I’ve had much better luck with Facebook. In my opinion Facebook’s advantage is that it is more interactive than Google Adwords. Especially since one of the adword phrases I was trying to promote (stun guns for sale) is not allowed by Google. Thanks for the great training on this site.

Personally, I think that Facebook Advertising is far better than Adwords because we can reach to the targeted users at very low price.

Very interesting! If you had limited time. What would you spend it on? Building followers on sociale media or building organic traffic (SEO)?
