Blog Icons is now officially cool
I announced the plugin this morning, but I've been coding like crazy on it tonight, and it's now way cooler than it was this morning. So I present you: blog icons 1.0.
You can now upload a favicon or apple touch icon in the backend, and, as a new feature, you can also upload & add an image to your RSS feed with this plugin now! Check out the looks of that in Firefox:

On top of that, it will autodetect your favicon if you have one, and set it correctly in your Atom feeds!
Check out the cool backend:

Enjoy!

Nice. I installed it this morning and hadn't even personalized it yet (updating 6 WP sites kind of blows your morning)

Seems to have troublw with jpegs. Saved them as gifs and no problem.
by Joost de Valk on 16 August, 2008 at 06:54
@archshrk: what was the name of the file you were trying to upload? did have a .jpg or a .jpeg extension?

You are on a roll recently. Thanks so much for all these awesome plugins.
For favicons, I'd recommend going with .ico files for maximum compatibility. Faviconr (http://www.faviconr.com/) is a quick way to convert any jpg of png or gif into the standard favicon ico file.
by Joost de Valk on 17 August, 2008 at 19:06
@Markus941 thx! great feedback, I'm looking into adding an option to convert to .ico in the plugin, would be cool if faviconr.com had an API...

This plug make a server error if you don't insert the favicon.ico into root directory.... i fix the bug... inser your favicon also in root dir of your website.

I'm using your favicon plugin and it's great. I only have one problem -- at Blogger blogs that have a widget for news feeds from selected sites, my favicon does not show up although other custom icons from WordPress blogs do. For example, see the news feed at where I'm listed as "Cynthia Yockey" but without my favicon. I'm using Thesis with Openhook and put the favicon HTML in the Thesis header on the Thesis Options page, but I don't know if the favicon is in the right place on my server. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Cynthia
