Yoast SEO 14.0: The Indexables

We launched one of the biggest updates in Yoast SEO history, Yoast SEO 14.0. This release, released on April 28th, is a huge rewrite of parts of our code. In our release post, you’ll find out all about Yoast SEO 14.0. In addition, we’re sharing technical details in developer posts on our developer blog this week, but we’ve also made a comic to try to explain to non-developers what we did. We have new super heroes, we call them the Indexables!

If you want to test, head on to this developer announcement post, test instructions are in there. For now, enjoy the comic:

Would be the new version be able to see the difference between code and text in readability? That makes me nuts. To see that I am on the right track with SEO writing. My workflow, for now, is: open a draft page paste text in there to see if all is fine. That is a tad time-consuming! It would be nice if YOAST would be able to figure that out with Flatsome theme!

Hi Annette, the actual features won’t change with this release. I understand your frustration though! Perhaps you could create an issue on our GitHub repository for this? https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues Thanks!

Wow, I can’t believe the negative responses in this thread. You guys are the business. The trouble you’ve taken to make this announcement fun is incredible. Yes, some of it goes over my head but the gist of it is clear. (And you provide more info on the Developers site: https://developer.yoast.com/blog/upcoming-release-yoast-seo-14-0-indexables/)

To all the negative replies: remember, the free version of this plugin is incredibly effective, continually improved and … FREE!

    Thanks Yoast Team!

I am looking forward to this but with a little trepidation because of the error in version 7 of Yoast SEO that unfortunately I updated to before the notification of the bug came out.

I only realised this problem a couple of months ago and so I am running the Yoast SEO: Search Index Purge plugin and plan to keep it running for six months, as advised.

So my question is, how will the new version of Yoast affect this? Do I still keep the Yoast SEO: Search Index Purge plugin running?

Also, I have Yoast WooCommerce – and I wonder how that will work with the new version Yoast SEO 14.0?

    • Joost de Valk

      – We’re not changing any settings here, nor deleting any data, in fact for now we’re opting to keep post meta up to date so we can move back or re-import if needed. We are storing the data in a new table, that’s all.
      – WooCommerce SEO will work with the latest update :)
      – If you’ve only just installed the purge plugin and you really need it, keep it running. Honestly though, the vast amount of people using it don’t really need it… It’s hard to tell without knowing your site.

How can i know if i need the purge plugin for a site or not ?
        Thank you

Hi Niki, Most likely, you don’t need to. You could check if you experienced a drop in traffic in June two years ago?

Why do u guys change versions so fast :) By 2024 we will be at version 46 :) Is that to do with marketing? Thanks.

    • Joost de Valk

No, we just release every 2 weeks and make a lot of changes ;)

Um, what?! What are you trying to say 14.0 will do… in English not cartoonish? Seems to be something about speed, but have no idea what this cartoon is trying to tell me.

Sounds great I love that you guys and girls make this software better all the time, improving speed and scaling this up for better user experience I think this Yoast is a very professional software. I actually find it helps us a lot with our SEO and that results in more traffic customers sales. I don’t usually leave comments, but I highly recommend this software, and I would like to say to you Yoast people you are doing a great job and I hope you carry on doing this work in the future. I think if you keep Yoast a professional software solution you will all do great.

I don’t get the cartoon. A more conventional explanation option would be greatly appreciated. I think you guys have a great company and this is really a very minor comment.

I’m reading the comic on a notebook and also find the text very small.

More importantly, I’m sorry to say I really don’t know any more about the new release now, then I did before reading the comic.

How about a bullet list of what’s new and what each of the new things means – how it we will benefit? Thanks

Hi Malcolm, more details (including bullet lists and benefits) will follow soon. Please stay tuned!

    A couple of questions:

    1. Will it work OK with Yoast SEO: WooCommerce ?

    2. Will it work OK with the Yoast SEO: Search Index Purge plugin that deals with the bug in Yoast 7 that returned image IDs when it shouldn’t have?

Hey Guys, I hope the Yoast update is better than the comic strip. The captions are very small and difficult to read. There doesn’t seem to be a back button either. As a non developer and not being tech savvy, I fear there will be instructions written in the same way. That’s to say full of jargon and consequently difficult read and understand. I ask you to please take into account that many people like myself run a site, but it’s not our full time occupation. Just like not everyone who drives a car is a mechanic . So I hope there will be instructions for dummies. Many thanks and best wishes, Sergio.

Further to my previous comment, I’ve read the comic strip on my phone where of course you can enlarge the content.

Thanks for your feedback, Sergio! We’ll definitely provide more information in plain English to make it clear to everyone. This comic is mainly meant as a teaser. And, we’ll take a look at the font size!

    Hi:

You forgot to add a Back arrow. Also, can this be downloaded, the font is way to small to read comfortably.
