Warning: fb:app_id hasn’t been included in the meta tags

This feature was inadvertently removed in the 7.1 version of Yoast SEO. The feature was reinstated in the 7.2 version.

The warning:

fb:app_id hasn’t been included in the meta tags. Specify the app ID so that stories shared to Facebook will be properly attributed to the app. Alternatively, app_id can be set in url when open the share dialog. Otherwise, the default app id( 966242223397117 ) will be assigned.

This warning message appears if you have not specified a Facebook app ID for your site. This does not interfere with the ability to share posts on Facebook but may limit your ability to use Facebook features like Insights.

Troubleshooting FAQ

Do I need a Facebook App ID?

No, it’s not strictly necessary to enter a Facebook App ID under SEO > Social > Facebook. Leaving this field empty won’t interfere with the ability to share posts on Facebook but may limit your ability to use Facebook features like Insights.

Can I use a Facebook Page ID instead?

No, it must be a Facebook App ID rather than a Facebook Page ID.

Does the Facebook App Need to be in Live Mode?

Yes, please make sure the Facebook App is in Live mode. If it’s in Development mode, Yoast SEO won’t be able to verify it and it will return a “The Facebook App ID you entered doesn’t exist” message. Please manually check the app ID using the following URL replacing with your app ID.http://graph.facebook.com/<APP_ID>

If it’s a valid app ID, it should show a category, link, name, and other APP relation information. If a manual verification shows a valid app ID, there is a communication issue somewhere between your site and Facebook.

If it’s not valid, it will display an error like this: “Unsupported get request. Object with ID ” does not exist.” If the manual verification shows an error, the app ID is not valid according to Facebook. Please check the app ID again and/or contact Facebook to find out why you see it as valid but the verification returns an error.

I manually checked the APP ID and it shows valid.

If you manually checked the app ID using the following URL: http://graph.facebook.com/(APP_ID) and the verification shows a valid app ID it typically means there is a communication issue somewhere between your site and Facebook. Please contact your web host for assistance with your server setup.

I get a: Unsupported get request. Object with ID ‘(APP_ID)’ does not exist

This means the app ID is not valid according to Facebook. Please make sure the Facebook App is in Live mode. If it’s in Development mode, Yoast SEO won’t be able to verify it and it will return a “The Facebook App ID you entered doesn’t exist” message. If the app is in Live mode, please contact Facebook to find out why you see it as valid but the verification returns an error.

Why do I get the error: The Facebook App ID you entered doesn’t exist?

Please check that the App ID is in Live Mode and that you have actually entered the App ID and not a Page ID.
