Customize the Yoast SEO readability analysis feature

The readability analysis in Yoast SEO focuses on the quality of your text, and it is available in multiple languages. High-quality content is an important ranking factor. That is why this feature is automatically enabled, and we definitely recommend using it. However, if for some reason you need to disable it, you can do that site-wide or per user. In this post, we guide you through the steps you need to take to disable or enable the readability feature.

How to disable (or enable) the readability feature site-wide

  1. Log in to your WordPress website.

    When you’re logged in, you will be in your ‘Dashboard’.

  2. Click on ‘Yoast SEO’.

    On the left-hand side, you will see a menu. In that menu, click on ‘Yoast SEO’.

  3. Click on ‘Settings’.

    The ‘Yoast SEO’ settings will expand providing you with additional options. Click on ‘Settings’.

  4. Click on the ‘Site features’ tab. 

  5. Toggle the ‘Readability analysis’ switch.

    Toggle the switch to enable the feature.
    When the feature is disabled, the ‘Readability analysis’ card and the toggle will be greyed out.

  6. Click ‘Save changes’.

How to disable (or enable) the content readability analysis for individual users

  1. Log in to your WordPress website.
    When you’re logged in, you will be in your ‘Dashboard’.
  2. Click on ‘Users’.
    On the left-hand side, you will see a menu. In that menu, click on ‘Users’.
  3. Click on ‘Profile’ or ‘Edit’ for other users.
    The user settings will expand providing you with additional options. Click on ‘Profile’ to disable the readability analysis for yourself or click ‘Edit’ below the username of another user to disable the analysis for them.


  4. Toggle the ‘Disable readability analysis’ checkbox.
    To enable the feature, uncheck the box.
    To disable the feature, check the box.

  5. Save Changes.
    Click ‘Update Profile’ or ‘Update User’ to save your changes.
