Let’s get to know Sunil Kumar Sharma
That’s quite an introduction, Prathamesh Palve! We would love to get to know Sunil Kumar Sharma even better. That’s why we asked him questions about his work and his passion for WordPress.
Hi, Sunil! How did you first discover WordPress, and why did you start contributing?
I first discovered WordPress over a decade ago when I began my journey in web development. Throughout my 10+ years as a developer and technical architect, I have seen how powerful and empowering the platform can be.
I started contributing after recognizing a significant gap in technical education for non-English speakers. I wanted to help break down those language barriers, which ultimately led me to establish WPSimplified, where I teach WordPress in Hindi and Hinglish. This mission also encouraged me to become more deeply involved in the WordPress community as an organizer, speaker, and volunteer.
What do you think made you stand out for this nomination?
I believe my commitment to making WordPress more accessible through regional-language education and community building helped me stand out.
Through WPSimplified and my recent WordPress Training Program, which received more than 700 registrations, I demonstrated the strong demand for localized technical education.
Alongside these educational initiatives, I have remained actively involved in the WordPress community. This includes helping organize WordPress Campus Connect in Jaipur and serving as an official Media Partner for WordCamp Asia 2026 in Mumbai. Together, these efforts reflect my dedication to strengthening and expanding the WordPress ecosystem.
What advice would you give to someone just starting with WordPress?
My first piece of advice is to get involved in the WordPress community as early as possible. It is one of the platform’s greatest resources, providing countless opportunities to learn, collaborate, and grow.
Second, learn in the language in which you feel most comfortable. A language barrier should never prevent someone from developing strong technical skills.
Finally, embrace modern technology from the beginning. Integrating tools such as GitHub Copilot, Lovable, and WordPress Studio into your workflow can save time, improve productivity, and help you become a more efficient developer.
If you could shape the future of WordPress, what would it look like?
I envision a future in which WordPress is genuinely accessible to everyone, regardless of their native language or location.
Closing the global language gap through stronger regional-language support will be essential. I would also like to see AI-assisted coding and design tools become more seamlessly integrated into the WordPress experience, making website creation faster, easier, and more intuitive.
At the same time, it is important that WordPress continues to preserve the open-source, community-driven values that have made it so successful.
What is your favorite WordPress memory, or what are you most proud of?
I am incredibly proud of the impact of my WordPress Training Program and of seeing more than 700 people register to learn WordPress.
However, one of my favorite memories is participating as an organizer at the WordPress Campus Connect event in Jaipur in 2025. The energy, enthusiasm, and connections from that event gave me the inspiration I needed to launch my regional-language training initiatives and to fully commit to bridging the technical education gap.
