Let’s get to know Nasim Miah
Those are some lovely words by Muhibul. Let’s get to know Nasim a bit better and ask him some questions about his work and passion for WordPress:
Nasim, what do you do in the WordPress space?
I am a web developer and SEO executive, actively building and optimizing WordPress websites for clients across Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia. I focus on corporate, service-based, and e-commerce sites using custom themes, SEO strategies, and performance optimization. In addition to that, I also contribute to the community by organizing and volunteering at WordCamps and local meetups.
How did you first discover WordPress, and why did you start contributing?
I started building websites in 2012 using various CMS platforms, but I always felt limited by their restrictions. In 2016, I built my first website using WordPress and immediately noticed the difference. The availability of free themes and plugins, especially drag-and-drop builders that required no coding knowledge, gave me a sense of freedom I had never experienced before.
As an SEO specialist, the first plugin I installed was Yoast SEO. It opened my eyes to how easy and powerful SEO implementation could be within the WordPress ecosystem. From that moment, I realized WordPress offered flexibility and the future I wanted to be part of. That’s why I’ve been freelancing with WordPress ever since.
After freelancing for a few years, I started to feel that I was only benefiting from WordPress without giving anything back. That motivated me to explore ways to contribute. I began attending local WordPress meetups, where I learned how to get involved in the community and give back meaningfully. That was the beginning of my journey as a contributor, and now it has become a regular and passionate part of my life.
What’s one WordPress-related goal you have for this year?
My goal this year is to contribute more consistently to the WordPress Community Team and actively organize more WordCamps and Meetups in Malaysia. I’m currently one of the WordCamp Johor Bahru 2025 organizers, and steering with both the Sponsor Team and the Community Team. My first core contribution to WordPress 6.8 was a proud milestone.
On the development side, I aim to release a few free plugins, and recently published my first WordPress block theme, Safa, a minimal and lightweight WordPress block theme
Who is your WordPress hero?
I have a few WordPress heroes who have truly inspired and guided me on my contribution journey. When I started contributing to the Polyglots team, Faisal Ahmmad was the first person who encouraged me and showed me how to contribute more effectively.
I later connected with Muhibul Haque through social media. He has been an incredible mentor, guiding me step by step in contributing to the Training Team and other areas. I’m especially grateful for his continued support and mentorship.
Through WordCamp Malaysia, I met Ganga Kafle. Who taught me how to contribute to the Themes Team, including the process of creating, testing, and publishing themes to the WordPress directory.
Another inspiring figure is Yves Tan, the lead organizer of WordCamp Johor Bahru 2025 and a dedicated host of the WordPress Johor Bahru meetup. His leadership, hard work, and team spirit have motivated me to become more actively involved in the WordPress community.
But I also deeply respect contributors who work quietly behind the scenes; they are the unsung heroes of WordPress.
Where can people connect with you online, at WordCamps, or other meetups?
I’m active on Facebook, LinkedIn, and my personal website, where I share updates on my work and community involvement.
Since I’m based in Malaysia, I regularly attend local WordPress meetups and WordCamps around the region. This year, I’m especially excited because I’m serving as a co-organizer of WordCamp Johor Bahru 2025!
If you’re planning to attend, please don’t hesitate to come up and say hi. I’d genuinely love to meet you, exchange ideas, and hear your WordPress story.
