Posts, pages, or taxonomies?

When you may have long titles for a post, page or taxonomy, you may prefer to use a shorter title for the Yoast SEO breadcrumbs. Each breadcrumb level can be changed on the corresponding post, page, or taxonomy under the advanced setting tab of the Yoast SEO metabox.

Note that Pages do not appear in the Taxonomy to Show section and you may need to use a shortcode to output breadcrumbs on pages.

  1. Log in to your WordPress website.

When you’re logged in, you will be in your ‘Dashboard’.

  2. Navigate to the post, page or taxonomy.

On the left-hand side, you will see a menu. In that menu, navigate to the post, page or taxonomy you’d like to add a custom breadcrumb title.

  3. Expand the ‘Advanced’ section and change the breadcrumb title.

Scroll to the Yoast SEO meta box and click on the advanced settings section to expand it. If you have enabled breadcrumbs, you can change the breadcrumb title.

  4. Click ‘Update’.

This will then output the custom breadcrumb title onto the post/page.

Both the free and Premium version of Yoast SEO give you full control over your breadcrumbs. But let’s be honest, Yoast SEO Premium can do a whole lot more! Like redirecting your URLs if you delete or change them. No more 404 errors to worry about. So if you’re serious about SEO, switch to Yoast SEO Premium!
