Let’s get to know Carolina Osório Pinho
Those are some lovely words by Carlos. Let’s get to know Carolina a bit better and ask her some questions about her work and passion for WordPress:
Carolina, what do you do in the WordPress space?
I’ve been part of the Portuguese WordPress community for over 10 years. A few years ago, I joined the organizing team of the monthly WP Porto Meetup, helping to run and support local events. I am involved with WordCamp Porto and Lisbon, participating as both organizer and volunteer. In 2024, I volunteered at WordCamp Europe (WCEU), and in 2025, I joined as an organizer. Being active in the community gives me the chance to collaborate, continue learning, give back, and connect with many inspiring people.
How did you first discover WordPress, and why did you start contributing?
I first discovered WordPress more than 15 years ago while studying engineering and running a small side business with my husband. We needed a way to collect marketing leads, and WordPress turned out to be the perfect tool. My curiosity soon led me to explore how to change themes, adjust the look and feel, and improve the UX, which sparked my interest in web development.
Later, when I started working in my field of study, the company I joined was struggling after Adobe Flash was discontinued. They asked if I would like to help with their digital projects, and that became the first big step toward changing my career path. Around that time, I also discovered the local WordPress community. By participating in meetups, I was able to discuss technical issues, receive guidance on best practices, and make significant growth as a developer.
A few years later, I became actively involved in the Portuguese WordPress community, helping with local meetups and WordCamps. Contributing felt like the natural next step—not only to give back but also to continue learning and growing alongside others who share my interests.
What excites you most about WordPress?
What excites me most about WordPress is the balance between powerful software and a strong community. Thanks to this collaboration, the platform continues to evolve, remaining modern, reliable, and adaptable. For me, being part of the community is also a key element of professional growth—it’s where I learn, share experiences, and stay aligned with best practices while contributing to the future of the tool I work with every day.
What’s one WordPress-related goal you have for this year?
This year, I’ve taken on the responsibility of leading the next WordCamp Portugal. It marks a new approach for our events. WordCamps in Portugal are city-based, but we feel that a country-wide format is better to embrace the entire community. My goal is to help create an event that brings people together, fosters collaboration, highlights innovation, and supports professionals in their growth. This is not just a goal for this year. It’s a commitment I made in 2025 with the intention of building a strong team that will create an amazing WordCamp Portugal in 2026.
What advice would you give to someone just starting with WordPress?
My advice is to start without fear. There’s an incredible amount of information available, from community-created learning resources to the huge library of talks and tutorials on WordPress.tv. This is an amazing starting point. Most importantly, get involved with your local community. Don’t be shy about connecting with people. You’ll find that the WordPress community is welcoming and supportive, and it’s one of the best ways to learn and grow.
Where can people connect with you? Online, at WordCamps, or other meetups?
People can easily connect with me on LinkedIn. Or in person at WordCamp Portugal, WordCamp Europe, and other local WordPress meetups.
