In 2025, he volunteered internationally at multiple WordCamps, including Dhaka, Bangkok, and WordCamp Asia. His creative side is also reflected through photography, with his photo “Gualikhali Beach Sunset” added to the WordPress Photo Directory in 2024. Akramul continues to support the community by volunteering, translating, and encouraging others to contribute.

Let’s get to know Akramul Hasan

That’s quite an introduction, Faisal! We would love to get to know Akramul even better. That’s why we asked him some questions about his work and his passion for WordPress:

Hi, Akramul! What do you do in the WordPress space?

I currently work full-time as a Technical Support Engineer at Barn2 Plugins, helping customers resolve real-world WordPress and WooCommerce issues daily. My role involves debugging, explaining technical concepts clearly, and ensuring users have a smooth experience with WordPress products.

Outside of my job, I actively contribute to the WordPress ecosystem by participating in the Support Forums, Polyglots team, Photos, and Core Test initiatives. I also try to attend WordCamps and community events whenever possible, as they help me stay connected to the community and continue learning from others.

How did you first discover WordPress, and why did you start contributing?

I was first introduced to WordPress in 2014, when I started working as a WordPress theme customizer. In the beginning, I built websites for clients using pre-made themes and plugins. After working this way for about two to three years, I gradually learned how to develop custom WordPress themes tailored to client needs.

Around 2019, I realized how much I had benefited from free WordPress resources-themes, plugins, documentation, and community support. WordPress helped me grow professionally and build a career. That realization motivated me to give back to the community that gave me so much, and that’s when I seriously started contributing.

What excites you most about WordPress?

What excites me most about WordPress is its large, vibrant, and well-connected open-source community. It is incredibly supportive-whenever I face a challenge, it’s easy to find help, guidance, or encouragement from others.

From a technical perspective, WordPress is both powerful and user-friendly. It allows non-technical users to easily build and manage websites, making it accessible to everyone. Because of its popularity and flexibility, it’s also easier to find clients and meaningful work. All of this together makes me a big fan of the WordPress ecosystem.

What advice would you give to someone just starting with WordPress?

My advice would be to start small and stay consistent. Learn the basics properly-how WordPress works, how themes and plugins interact, and how to troubleshoot simple issues. Don’t rush into everything at once.

At the same time, try to get involved with the community early. Ask questions, read documentation, join forums, and help others when you can-even small help matters. Practice by building real projects, not just watching tutorials. Most importantly, be patient with yourself. WordPress has a huge ecosystem, and learning it step by step will make the journey enjoyable and sustainable.

What’s your favorite WordPress memory or something you’re most proud of?

One of my proudest WordPress memories is being featured in the WordPress Summer Photo Festival 2025. My photo titled “A serene view of clear turquoise waters with gentle ripples, a boat in the distance surrounded by a bright sky scattered with fluffy clouds” was selected.

The photo was taken in Boracay, Philippines, and being recognized by the WordPress community for creative contribution, not just technical work, felt very special. It reminded me that WordPress values creativity, diversity, and community participation in many different forms.

Thank you for this interview, Akramul, and for all of your contributions to the WordPress community! Do you know someone like Akramul Hasan who also deserves to be in the spotlight? Go to our Yoast Care page and nominate them right away.
