WordCamp Bulgaria: my presentation & more

So I was in Sofia, Bulgaria for WordCamp Bulgaria. They write in Cyrillic and talk Bulgarian there; meaning I’ve never felt like a stranger this much ever in my life. In a good way though because the people were awesome. These people included Dobromir and Ivan, the two organizers, Nikolay from Automattic, Stefanos from Greece and entirely too many other nice and smart people.

My presentation was a bit more about the basics of SEO than some of the presentations I used to do in the past. I started with talking about being remarkable, making sure you have proper content to optimize. Then some tips on optimization, engaging and measurement, and after about 50 minutes, I was done! Have fun and make sure to let me know in the comments what you think (PS, make sure you can see the notes underneath the slides):

This looks like it would have been a great presentation, and not another instance of PowerPoint Karaoke. Also, I haven’t heard of the Redirection plugin. I’ll look into that now. Thanks :D

Thanks :) I don’t do powerpoint karaoke indeed, I rather use my images to visualize what I’m talking about. Have fun with Redirection :)

There’s something wrong with your RSS feed. I subscribe to about 100 RSS feeds with NetNewsWire and for several months your RSS feed has been acting fishy. NetNewsWire marks a lot of your old posts as new/unread posts. Somtimes just a few posts are marked as unread sometimes a bunch of them.
Just today I had 20 old posts going back to 2010-08-17 16.12 marked as new. And this only happens to your RSS feed.

It’s weird, my feed is actually a disguised Yahoo! Pipe, which pulls in my Yoast and WP Community feeds. Might have to find another solution if it doesn’t work well though…

Weird indeed. I read all my RSS feeds a few hours ago. Now when I start NetNewsWire agin (with ~90 feeds subscribed) I get 17 old yoast.com posts marked as new (post from 2010-08-25 16.56 to 2010-10-06 15.03). All other feeds are fine. Perhaps its just NNW.

As an SEO newcomer, the basics is most appropriate for me. Thanks for sharing this wonderful presentation.

Joost, you gave the best presentation at the event! It was interesting and helpful and I am really glad to be there. For me it was one of the most interesting conferences of the year, perhaps because it was focused on an interesting and trendy topic.

Thank you for being with us!

great piece of content as always Joost.

After reading it I was hesitating if the plugin SEO No Duplicates I am using is a good option or not. Do you know it? What do you think about placing a “canonical” to the home in each pagination page?
