Google Analytics eCommerce Tracking for Easy Digital DownloadsWith the Easy Digital Downloads plugin you can very easily sell digital products through your WordPress website. With the Google Analytics for WordPress plugin by Yoast, you can track WordPress sites in Google Analytics. Now of course, when you’re selling digital goods through Easy Digital Downloads, you want to track those sales in Google Analytics too as eCommerce transactions. That’s exactly what this plugin does.

Installation

WordPress Setup

Installation of this plugin is easy: upload and activate. No need to do anything else. But you need to have the Google Analytics for WordPress plugin by Yoast active and ready for it to do it’s work, as well as, of course, a working version of Easy Digital Downloads. Other than that, there is no need to do anything on the WordPress side.

Google Analytics Setup

You have to enable eCommerce tracking in your account. If you haven’t done that yet, complete step 1 of Google’s instructions, find them here. The setting should look like this:

You’ll also want to check whether you have set up the right currency for your site.

Usage of the Reports in Google Analytics

After you’ve activated the plugin and had your first sales, it might take up to 24 hours for Google Analytics to display the first sale. The plugin uses the “product variant” label within Google Analytics to store the payment method, so you can track the different payment methods being used for the product sales as well.

In Google Analytics you will get an eCommerce report, which you can find under Conversions -> eCommerce:

You can track sales by referrer, by keyword, etc. etc. the possibilities are huge and it gives you a great way to optimize your buying experience and increase your shops sales!
