WordPress plugin competition
Win a Macbook Air!
We're going to start 2009 with a bang! Read on to see why you shouldn't be missing this chance to win a Macbook Air.
In the last part of 2008, I've been working with the guys at sunshine.co.uk. I've worked with many a travel company in my years in online marketing, many of whom try to rank for things like cheap holidays, but I've hardly ever seen a company in travel that's so creative in its marketing efforts.
The guys at sunshine created SunPress, a WordPress plugin that allows affiliates to easily create a holiday site based on WordPress using the Sunshine feed, and they even created themes to make such sites look like really cool holiday sites. I wrote a couple of posts for them, to help you optimize such a SunPress installation, and helped them with their themes.
We both wanted more though, we'd like other people to start expanding on SunPress too, and that's what this competition is all about: who can make the best addon for SunPress, be it a theme, a widget or a plugin. Nothing is off limits, so if you make a plugin that adds listings for other merchants: feel free, we'd love to see that!
The competition starts NOW, and will close on February 16th (my birthday!). The winner will win a Macbook Air (be sure to read the fine print below) sponsored by sunshine.co.uk. The judges are Chris Clarkson of sunshine.co.uk, and yours truly.
The fine print
The plugin has to help in making a great holiday site, so it can also be a plugin that can work "stand-alone" without SunPress. It has to work alongside SunPress though (so no conflicts), and has to be written specifically for this competition.
The prize is a MacBook Air 1.6GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 1066MHz frontside bus, 2GB Memory, 120GB SATA hard drive1, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card, or a cash alternative.
If the selected winner resides in an area not covered by delivery from
Apple, the cash alternative will be awarded.
All entries have to be released under the GPL. Feel free to release it on your own blog and just email us the link.

Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! ;-)
I have no experience with sunPress but I do write wordpress plugins every now and then. Would you say it'll be hard to understand what sunPress is and how to work with it?
by Joost de Valk on 5 January, 2009 at 15:42
No it's pretty easy, just give it a try :)

I might look into it (a little busy with my internship right now). It is a nice price ofcourse (though I wouldn't pay for it)!

I might give this a shot if I can come up with something :) It's a great prize :)

Thank you Sir. It was indeed a very good contest for the wordpress plugin.
by Dremation on 9 January, 2009 at 01:21
Awesome. This is the best thing I've seen online in a long time! I've got to enter this one!

Thanks for the great contest. Joost talks about entering in wordpress themes, but the fine print only talks about plugins. I want to clarify that themes will also be accepted as entries.
by Chris Clarkson on 10 January, 2009 at 16:23
Plugins, themes, widgets....anything really that adds to sunPress!

Hi Guys,
apologies for the delay! Joost and I decided to make the eventual winner work harder for their prize, so we asked a couple of the entrants to go back and take their ideas to the point where we can release them. If we haven’t contacted you yet, I’m afraid you are out of the running, but many thanks for having a go! We expect to announce the winner and launch the plugin/theme in a week or so.
