Twittering with Twitterific

Note: if you like this post, read my post on Twitter iPhone apps side by side.

Twitterific logoI've been hooked on Twitter for a while now, (I'm @jdevalk, follow me!) and I use Twitterific mostly when I'm at my Mac. Rae invited me and a couple of other people, through Twitter of course, to do a small review of the program we use, in my case, Twitterific (sorry, Mac only).

So here we go:

  1. Start by downloading Twitterific.
  2. Unzip the DMG file, and move Twitterific, with the cool icon on the right, to your Applications folder
  3. Start up Twitterific, add in your Twitter account details, and you'll see a window which looks something like this:

Twitterific interface

You can tweak the settings, of which it has quite a few, to change stuff like the refresh speed:

Twitterific interface

Now the fun starts, as Twitterific has some great shortcuts:

  • ⌘R - Refresh list of tweets
  • ⌘K - Mark all tweets as read
  • ⌘2 - Reply to the selected tweet (using "@name")
  • ⌘D - Send a direct message
  • ⌘â†? - Open the user's Twitter page

There are more, you'll find them on the Twitterific page. This is, as you can see, a good looking application, well worth the $15 they ask to remove the ads, which it shows by default. Now there are some other peepz who have made similar posts about their own favorite Twitter apps, check them out:

My name is there! My name is there! Wheee!

Twitterific looks very good, I might have to install it on my Mac. I'm using TwitterFox at the moment and finding it pretty effective, despite a couple of small bugs.

One big problem I have with TwitterFox is that I use it across several computers. Annoyingly, it doesn't realise which tweets I've already read on the other computer and bombards me with "20 new tweets" when I get home from work. I don't suppose Twitterific would help me with that would it?

I love this app, been using it for a long long time now. Without it, I would not be on twitter.

Thx for dropping by Barry, and it rocks, indeed.

Gotta love Twitterific. But that screenshot is just too real!

Hehe Reinier, SO true.

very nice, will try it. I just suggested to the Twitterians that the create an iGoogle app, since that's where I organize and check things, mostly (including the awesome Todoist) - but twitterific looks good, too!

I also use Twittermail when I'm on my blackberry, usefull.
Snitter turns Twitter in sme sort of IM client. Not good when you have to work though :)

If you haven't tried twhirl I would highly recommend it. I dropped Twitterific for twhirl.

I have never tried it...Nice shot!

I second what Marc is saying. twhirl is a very good application that I highly recommend as well for you to check out.
