More than a few of you have complained that when at work, my MSN Messenger kept siging out and back in again. After having cursed at it again for several times this morning, I decided it could not be my connection, so I started looking around for what it could be.
It's pretty darn simple, actually: I had MSN Messenger and Live Messenger installed. Somehow these two kept bumping into each other, so you should remove MSN Messenger, and all works flawlessly again. Follow these simple steps, and you will be cured of the problem as well:
- Shut down Messenger.
- Click Start
- Click Run
- enter "%appdata%\microsoft" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
- You're now in your application data folder.
- Delete the MSN Messenger folder.
- Start up Messenger again.
That fixed it for me, hope it helps you out as well!
do those two programs share registry entries?
otherwise it would be safe to say that you could just disable the 'automatically run Windows MSN/Messenger when I log on to Windows' ? But then there would still be a stale installation of MSN messenger on your harddrive ;-).
and while you are at it, think you can also remove 'Windows Messenger' through the control panel -> add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components -> Windows Messenger. Think it's not being used anyway.
Hi Joost, I certainly relate, having done much cursing of messenger myself since switching to Live Messenger. Messeges often don't get sent, arrive hours after they were sent, and I also get signed out at random.

I really need help!! its been over a week im trying to sign on msn but it doesnt work. I uninstallled and installed msn live so many times and i have rebooted the pc. error: 80072efd and 80072745 keeps comin up. I trouble shoot and nothings wrong!! But it still doesnt sign in:(:( it says my firewall may be blocking windows live messenger to connect to the service. but ive checked it and it isnt blocked!! Can some one pls help me im so stressed cos of this...?? :(
I have a problem with messenger, i tried that thing where you click on run and delete all the messenger stuff.
But it still isnt working.

Hey people...I have been having problems with Msn live 9..I don't think its are problem why it is not working there is so many people giving riesions to fix it if its to do with singing in and out or your contacts are not there from it just not singing in..As ive had all them problems and not one of the resions posted on any site have helped...Its crap msn like vista its full of bugs..Here is what i would say do is just download WLM Lite 8.5, 8.0 ,7.5 ect ect..Its msn u dont have to install on your pc just open and run like u was using msn. Works great on my pc i dont have any problems and im happy i don't have to deal with all the crap u get with msn live 9..Hope this can help..
HI.. im on windows vista. Im trying to donwload msn messenger but it says it is allready on my computer. I cannot find it anywhere not in add remove programs i try searching for it and nothing. But when the downloading thing comes up for messenger it says i have all the files on my computer all ready? how else can i get msn on my computer or find the files?
