I was recently interviewed by Ross Dunn, one of the hosts of SEO 101 on Webmasterradio.fm. I thought it might be interesting for you too, so you can listen here or download the mp3 here.
We discuss WordPress optimization at a pretty basic level, so for those just starting out with WordPress optimization this might be a good one to start on!

Great interview and good to hear some insight into the world of WordPress SEO from you
Thanks
Kevin
My pleasure Kevin! It was really cool to be on there, although it’s always weird to hear yourself like that afterwards.
Yoast. That was a great interview. It offered many reassuring facts from an expert point of view.
But what shocked me more when I came by your blog is this new breathtaking blog design. It is stunningly beautiful, colors are well thought and perfectly designed.
Two thumbs up.
Thanks :) I have yet to post on the new design, it’s taken a while, but I’m quite happy too :)
Yes nice design Joost. Did you stop using sociable? Your buttons for the social sites are so big and shiny. Makes me want to click them…. Sociable update coming?
Great insight interview. Perhaps you could do more podcasts in the future?
You’ll be pleased to hear I’ve recorded a short interview with Charles Stricklin of the WordPress podcast yesterday, which I think will go live next week.
I plan on doing more video and audio on Yoast the coming months, glad to hear people appreciate it!
Love the part when you say that Russia isn’t really in Europe! Take that, US ignorants ;-)
Geographically, gorgeous Russia lies in both Europe and Asia. If any of my fellow Americans have offended you in any way with suggesting otherwise, I apologize. We are actually, for the most part, fascinated with the beautiful scenery and fascinating people of Russia. Most of us would love to visit it one day.
It certainly wouldn’t be an insult to suggest that Russia were in Europe – to Europe or Russia. Each could be very proud of the other!
My experience has been that “most” people from that part of the world are very friendly and warm. And quite beautiful!
I am seeing this just under your post title and date: Fatal error: Call to a member function get() on a non-object in /home/yoast/public_html/wp-includes/query.php on line 27
Also – random question about wordpress seo. I have the wordpress default url set up as http://www.domain.com, the non-www is 302′d to the www. So if backlinks come without the http://www…. I am screwed, correct? Know of any way to make this a permanent 301???
Great interview. Can I ask a dumb question… You mentioned that you like headspace more than the seo all in one. Which made me realize that I have gone plugin happy: On my blog I have installed: All in One SEO, SEO Smart Links, SEO Friendly Images, SEO Title Tag and Headspace. Have I gone way overboard? Do I just need headspace?
Thanks
Todd
@Todd Headspace takes care of title and meta but I don’t think it deals with images and links. You can probably do without All In One and SEO Title Tag and just use Headspace and SEO Links, and Images. I’ve never used SEO Smart Links and Images, does it do things that can’t just be coded into the themes?
I think seo smart links is redundant too,,,, the SEO Images does a simple rename of your images to include category and post title to you image name.
Smart Links does smart things but it comes with a rather heavy performance penalty, in my experience…
Great site. I absolutely love the design
Thanks Eddie :)
I really like the design as well. However, just so you know I am using the newest version of FF and the sidebar is displaying weird for me. You may want to check it out and see if it is something just specific to me or if it an issue.
Hey Joost,
I’m still totaly stunned about the new design. Hey, thats so cool! At the moment I work on a new blogdesign and know, how complex it ist with the comments, …
These boxes are from randfish, not? :-) I love them too!
Regards, Chris
Hey Chris, nothing from randfish in this, all default WordPress 2.7 functionality actually :)
The answer-boxes? Nice – I should use them also :-)
Love the new blog design and great interview. Big fan of all of your WordPress work and plugins. Keep up the great work.
I’ll definitly try Soggy :)
Hi Joost,
just wanted to say thanks for all the great wordpress tips and plugins… I am happy I found your site thanks to Darren @ proBlogger
Hi Neville, glad to hear you like this site and my plugins! Be sure to come back often :)
Great to hear the mp4, so finally i found great tools
Love your new website design. Especially the dutch references.
This is really helpfull, thanks
I stumbled on your site while searching for ways to analyze keywords. Wow, you have a great list of articles, I will be lost here for many days! I also came across your links to the products by Link-assistant.com and it seems like they are just what I am looking for. I have tried Wordtracker, but not sure exactly what the numbers mean. I am a newbie to SEO (1 year), but have a few local friends in Orlando here who are quite seriously into it. I have a marketing company and so many of my clients are not taking advantage of making improvements with SEO techniques.
MY GOAL IS TO BE ABLE TO FIGURE OUT HOW MANY TIMES A SEARCH STRING IS USED ON GOOGLE. Currently, my best estimates have come from running an Adwords campaign and looking at the “impressions” to gauge if people are really searching what I think they are. But I assume that there are tools that make the job easier? Wordtracker gives me numbers that I can compare a group of phrases with, but I am not sure how closely the numbers correspond to the actual searches done.
I KNOW THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DUMB QUESTION TO ALL THE EXPERTS OUT THERE, BUT if any on you have a moment to point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated!
We don’t build many wordpress blogs, but listening to SEO 101 was interesting, thanks for posting so much information in one place here Joost – I will be hanging here and learning!

Great information. I love your plugins and advice – I read your stuff religiously. I came looking
for information about smart links because I’m kind of confused about whether they’re an
asset to a site’s seo or not. The seem, on the surface, user-friendly, but YARPP may serve the
need just as well.
