    Digg abuse

While I talked to you guys about how I made a site rank for some top keywords fast using Digg and some quality link-bait, I do not think that spamming is the answer. My colleague Roy Huiskes talked about some Digg abuse on his blog, and why this wouldn't work. He quotes an article on [...]

    Changing your permalink structure

I recently changed the permalink structure of this Wordpress blog, going from /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ (Wordpress default i think) to the much more elegant and simple /%postname%/. This is very cool ofcourse, both because it's simpler and SEO wise, but on an existing blog, this leaves you with lots of links that point to the wrong URL. [...]

W3C paid links no longer indexed

The W3C supporters program had been (ab-)used for a while now by, amongst others, SEO companies. They paid $1,000 to the W3C, and got a link on the supporters page in return, a PageRank 9 page. This way they increased their PageRank. Look among the links on that page, and spot the pages with "SEO" [...]

Which links hurt and which don't?

Links are very important for your site, even when you're not looking at a site like an SEO would. One of the hot topics among SEO's is whether links can hurt you as well. I've collected some recent threads at forums and some answers from the guys who are "in the know", like Adam Lasnik [...]

    Update to PageRank checking script

The latest PageRank update from Google has not moved over to all datacenters, as Matt Cutts has said, this is because some datacenters still use old data. So i had to fix my PageRank checker and my Domain Info script, i've now given these scripts another set of datacenters to check for PageRank, a set [...]

    PageRank update!

Some datacenters are showing new PR values for my sites, so an update is working. I have to say: it's turning out quite nice. CSS3.info get's a PR5, it's preview subpages are even PR6. My homepage finally get's what it deserves and goes to PR6, coming from a mere PR2...
BTW, the page i use to [...]

    Developing link-bait: an example

One of the hardest things to do in SEO these days, is getting the links you want, at the price you want: for free. Most of those directory links you can get for free won't help you a lot, since what you want is links from trusted websites, with approximately the same topic as your [...]

    That's some smart link building

Jim Westergren, the man behind SEO Fusion and some great articles about link building, has launched a new service: Smart Link Building. What he does is the following: you give him a site that you want links for and a list of keywords. Then he writes 20 mini-articles, with 10 links in each article, and [...]

    Domain info script

I've spent a lot of time the last weeks on building a domain info script, combining as much data i can gather about a domain as possible. It checks incoming links in Google, Yahoo, MSN and Technorati, and next to that wikipedia links, .edu and .gov links, PageRank, DMOZ and Yahoo directory listing etc. etc.
    I'll [...]

Getting Google's last visit date from the Google API

When Vanessa Fox over at the Webmaster Central Blog said they would update the "retrieved on" date even when a page hadn't changed, it suddenly became very cool info. This means you can see when a URL was last spidered, even if you don't have a Sitemaps account for the domain. This triggered me to [...]
