Affiliate links? Cloak them!
John Chow did a post on how to hide your affiliate links... Of course the only proper way to hide affiliate links is: cloaking them. I'm thinking about building a WordPress plugin for that specific purpose. Anyone know of a proper affiliate link cloaking script?

Hi Joost,
I used to be a cloaking king and never got caught (with cloaking), but you on the other hand have an offwhite-hat reputation. Don't ruin the reputation with such a post. When and if the company you work for gets caught with anything slightly grey, this post will be regurgitated to show OTM is a group of blackhats.
If cloaking is something you practice; Don't preach it!
I've got some cloaking instructions on my blog, but I rarely do cloaking anymore. So for me it is the opposite. But I didn't get caught because I adapted the technique to what search engines and competitors could see.
Hiding affilliate links is against most guidelines and is easily detected by your competition. So I'd recommend against it.

Hehe Peter, I am a spotty white hat at work, and I won't ever recommend anyone to cloak while working for Onetomarket.
However, if you're in the affiliate business like most readers over at john chow, there's nothing wrong with getting your hands dirty a bit...

What I usually do is the PHP Redirect method and I'm pretty happy with that.
Here is the code:
If you're not redirected to the proper page in 5 seconds, Click Here.
Then, I save the file as an index.php and put it in the folder with the name of that Affiliate Product: http://www.MySite.com/recommends/AffiliateProductName
This method has so far worked well for me and generated a number of sales. As you know, people don't prefer links with affiliate code, so this kind of hiding is more effective.
Also, this way is better for SEO. So, bear that in mind, too!
Thanks for the post!
Regards!
